OUR SERVICES
Our services are available to all members of the African communities in
the UK.
The main activities include Prevention work, information advice ,support
and advocacy services and services aimed at the promotion of general health
and welbeing of the African people in London.
MAIN ACTIVITIES ARE
1. Delivering a range of Preventative interventions in the African communities,
including workshops and other forms of awareness campaigns and health promotion
programmes, aimed at the control of the spread of HIV/AIDS and Sexually
transmitted Infections, promoting good sexual health and improving the lives
of those affected by HIV/AIDS.
2. Producing and disseminate information on HIV/AIDS issues in order to
promote awareness and the uptake of services.
3. Researching into the causes of HIV and related issues and to disseminate
affected by HIV/AIDS on welfare and treatment issues.
4. Operating surgeries at designated hospitals & Genital Urinary Medicine
clinics in order to support the work of the health professionals and to
advise and assist clients to access appropriate services.
5. Running support groups for service users.
6. Running training courses for statutory and voluntary sector service providers
on cultural competence in order to improve their knowledge of HIV needs
of Africans and to contribute to service development.
7. Recruiting, training and supporting volunteers, who in turn support the
work of the Outreach Project Workers.
8. Lead agency and fund holder of the South London African Health Initiative
(SLAHI).
BENEFICIARIES
UAAF services are available to all African people in London, irrespective
of the area of funding. The majority of our clients are either refugees
or asylum seekers many of whom are on low incomes. UAAF targets communities
from African countries with a high prevalence of HIV/AIDS.
